Two Tree's Cafe
When you hear someone say “two trees” you immediately think about the trees on the hills over looking Ventura; and yes like most of you I have hiked those hills to see what the world looked like from up there. I was young, poor and full of energy at the time; now that I have money and I just want to see who will be
my masseuse for that full body massage. And if I’m desperate to see two trees I can see a picture of two trees from my lunch table. What lunch table is that you ask? The picture of two trees I’m talking about is hanging in the dining room of a new restaurant on the east end of Ventura. And surprise, surprise, the name of the restaurant is Two Trees. Yes you now have more choices for breakfast and lunch. Two Trees is a mom and pop type restaurant located in the shopping center at the corner of Telegraph and Kimball. Only mom and pop don’t own this one, it’s owned by two brothers, Isaac and Raul (they seem very nice). If you meet them Raul will be the one who needs a hair cut, that’s an inside joke, you will need to meet Raul to get the joke.
They have variety of choices on their menu. They carry all the normal breakfast items, such as omlets, eggs and bacon. The omelets are big enough for two and very cheesy. I don’t mean cheesy personality; I mean a serious cholesterol rush; it made my heart stop just looking at them.
The day I was there I was looking for something different so I turned over the back of the menu and saw the dinner items they serve for lunch. I immediately had to question our server about how they prepare their chicken fried steak because any one who really loves chicken fried steak knows how it should be prepared. You cannot buy it frozen, you cannot deep fry it and good gravy you cannot dip it in pancake batter. What in the world is that about! Well after much conversation I found out that they tenderize the meat themselves, bread it with a little flour and fry it (not deep fry it). It was just what it should be and was served with homemade mashed potatoes. Now being the expert gravy conasure that I am; I gave them some suggestions on how to better the gravy. And to my surprise they thanked me for the suggestion. I will be back to see if they took my advice because greasy sausage gravy runs in my veins. I know gravy!
I also noticed they had liver and onions on the menu. This is very hard to find unless you travel back in time and look under my chair at the dinner table. Just kidding, I know there are people who will kill for liver and onions; I say watch out for those people. All kidding aside I did notice they had pork chops on the menu and wish I had enough room to try them, but alas I was full of chicken fried steak.
I don’t want to forget to say they have homemade soup and it was very good, and as you have already guessed I have given myself credit for being a good judge of homemade soup. I believe it takes a good cook to know good food and what can I say I’m a great cook myself and I have the assets to prove it. Did I say assets? I meant something else.
The price range on the menu is about $7.00 to $10.00 and that’s inexpensive enough for me to eat and still have money left for my full body massage.
